of the techniques that the local authorities and federal authorities used to get around the booby traps, the meant went through the window. you saw at that video, them working through the video and they used robots to go inside instead of a person at risk and they used water not only to surround explosives, but used a water blast to short out that main control panel. ultimately, there was a point where the situation was deemed safe enough where people could go inside and gather up some of the rigged explosives. some of those were fireworks rigged specially picked up and put into a dump truck filled with sand and driven to a remote location south of aurora here. and ultimately, those fireworks, the other type of makeshift explosives, were destroyed in a controlled manner. and then the evidence started coming out of the apartment. about 8 p.m. local time people saw laptop computer and a hard drive come out of this apartment and that should prove to be a treasure trove in terms of evidence. diaries this guy wrote and plans laid out and investigators are hoping to find a path of that on the computer a

from passengers on a flight from new york to madrid. tom costello covers aviation for us. tom, how are you? >> reporter: good morning. delta flight to madrid, 206 passengers on board. it left new york at 8:00 but soon after turned back to jfk and escorted to a remote location on the runway after a passenger spotted something that looked very suspicious. on the floor of a lavatory, a straw with wires in it. the crew notified on board air marshals and then a female passenger began having difficulty breathing as she pointed out another male passenger she thought was the last person into the lavatory. the male passenger denied going to the rest room or having anything to do with the wires but the air marshals and crew became concerned that the female passenger might be part of a diversion. listen to the pilot talking to the tower when they were on the ramp but before police boarded the plane. >> we have a lady that is on oxygen that the flight attendants want paramedics for, but we think she's the one that is supposed to be the decoy to keep looking at the gentleman that was playing wi

're with us everybody. i'm jenna lee. jon: i'm jon scott. the concerns coming out with the release of the new gdp numbers. our commerce department says the economy grew at annual rate of 1.5% from april to june. americans spending at their slowest pace in a year. economists say growth at or below 2% is not enough to lower the unemployment rate. they do not expect growth to pick up much in the second half of the year either. let's talk about it with karl rove, former senior advisor and deputy chief of staff to president george w. bush. he is also a fox news contributor. karl, what do you make of these numbers? >> well not good, not good for the country and not good politically for the president. here's a look, jon, if you will, you remember the growth here, number in the second quarter is 1.5%. for the year it is estimated to be 2% though i suspect a lot of people will be lowering their estimates now that we've had 1.5% in the second quarter and 2% in the first quarter. but here's what looked like in previous reelections. when president bush ran for re-election it was 2.6% in the second quarte
